Working for Far Flung can be challenging but overall, it is a rewarding experience. As a guide you must be a people person. Being in contact with tourists is the main part of the job. Ensuring that all guests enjoy their trip is essential. You will also be working as a team with other guides and employees. If you absorb everyone's advice and communicate well, you will be able to catch on quickly. Before you arrive, you will be required to complete an 80 hour wilderness first response course that will give you the knowledge and skills you need to keep guests safe while in the back country. Far Flung will teach you what you need to know as far as boating and help you learn their system of loading, unloading, cleaning and storing gear. You will also learn their way of interpreting the area as well as other do's and don'ts . Knowledge about the Big Bend's history, geography, flora, fauna and culture will allow you to communicate with guests and answer all questions they may have. Far Flung offers a guide library where most information can be found. As an intern, your first aid course and housing is paid for. You will also be paid for every hour spent on the job. You will be in contact with guides that have worked rivers across the country and some around the world. Living in Terlingua will allow you to break away from the rest of the world.
